From the opening protocol by Native Hawaiian cultural practitioner Hi‘ilani Shibata from the Ka Mahina Project to the closing performance by island-reggae music rising star Likkle Jordee, there was a truly magical atmosphere in the district of Our Kaka‘ako when the Honolulu Night Market: Mahina Māhealani presented by Hawaiian Airlines Bank of Hawaii®️ World Elite Mastercard®️ took place.

The Honolulu Night Market is much more than just a gathering; it’s an experience!

The theme of this event, Mahina Māhealani, paid homage to the Hawaiian lunar calendar. Mahina Māhealani is the 16th lunar phase, marking the last of the four Hawaiian full moons. It’s a special phase that is believed to be ideal for all types of endeavors, from planting to fishing.

Stargazers of Hawaiʻi and ʻOhana Kilo Hōkū, our partners from ʻOhana Stargazing brought out the giant telescope for attendees to see the moon up close and the Ka Mahina Project, who send out daily updates about the Hawaiian Lunar Calendar, were on-hand to share their manaʻo about the Mahina.

Reflecting the fullness of the moon itself, the event was alive with activity as over 50 local vendors brought an array of flavors, sounds, and sights to life throughout the district.

Attendees were treated to some of the meanest grindz from across the island.

Sushi King Kaka‘ako, our neighbor to the ma kai side of Ala Moana Blvd., set up shop with its brand new Makanai bento and coffee trailer. They also came from the other side of the island! One notable vendor who made the trek from Kahuku to our district here on the South Shore was Da Bald Guy, who was featured on Netflix’s Streetfood USA show.

The sounds of live music flowed throughout the district providing the essential playlist for the evening featuring the rhythm of music by members of the Haku Collective, Dillon Pakele’s band, DJ Compose, Dj Mau and Likkle Jordee.

It wouldn’t be Honolulu Night Market without a fashion show! Nakeʻu Awai, the island’s first fashion designer took the mainstage and celebrated 50 years of iconic work and was joined by [EP-IK] Style and ‘Iwi Nails, who made their Honolulu Night Market Debuts.

From Molokaʻi, [EP-IK] Style and Iwi Nails were founded by two wahine, who are members of Hawaiʻi FoundHer’s current cohort. The FoundHer program, which is a part of the local non-profit Purple Maiʻa, supports and provides training to female entrepreneurs of Native Hawaiian, Asian American, Pacific Islander ancestry.

As the evening drew to a close, it was clear that the Honolulu Night Market: Mahina Māhealani was more than just an event—it was an experience that continues to cultivate our vibrant community, one that is deeply rooted in the history and culture of the district.

Mahalo to all who joined us and special thanks to our event sponsors and partners!
