Last year, we refreshed and reorganized the Our Kaka‘ako website with modern visuals, videos, new sections, and streamlined navigation to better engage and inform visitors. As a result of the improvements, the website recently won the 2021 PRSA Koa Hammer Award of Excellence for external websites.
The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) is a national association dedicated to advancing standards, practices, and ethics in the public relations profession. Judges from the Los Angeles PRSA chapter cited the revamped website’s visual elements—like the bold orange and turquoise hues, eye-catching sizzle reel, and distinctive triangular patterns—and user-friendly organization as noteworthy improvements that effectively revitalized our online presence.
Everyone can find something useful in the site’s new features, whether you’re a visitor taking pictures with murals and using the local Wi-Fi to upload your shots, a neighborhood resident attending the latest community events with your friends and family, or a prospective renter looking at apartment floor plans.
We also created a new page for our Kaiāulu ʻo Kakaʻako Master Plan, which describes the exciting things to come in the next stage of Increment II. Four of the nine blocks are complete, while the remaining five are in the planning stages. They will include a variety of accessible housing options for kamaʻāina along with retail space and gathering places.
A PRSA judge commented, “The new site is a really colorful and engaging re-imagining. The design elements are really pleasing to the eye, and the site is easy to use. It flows really nicely between sections, and it’s very easy to see how the various audiences would each find what they’re looking for. The technical execution is very strong, particularly the high quality of the video elements.”
