Celebrating Community
Throughout its history, Kaka‘ako has been a community of hard working people. Native Hawaiians once fished and produced pa‘akai (salt) here. In the 1800s, immigrant laborers living in camps forged Kaka‘ako’s industrial roots. In the mid-1900s, small businesses and warehouses transformed the district.
Our Kaka‘ako is providing a brighter future for Hawaiʻi by creating new places for people to live and work. Today, this revitalized, mixed-use, walkable neighborhood offers an array of housing options for homeowners and renters – from affordable to market-priced residential offerings, and from low-rise residences to high-rise towers. In addition, the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well. You’ll find it all in this amazing community!
